FEMTANYL, also known as Noelle Mansbridge, is a somewhat newer breakcore/electronic artist with her debut song S33K H3LP in May 28, 2023. I started getting into her music sometime in 2024 with WORLDWID3, when my friend recommended it to me and is now my favorite artist, by far.
Her music is loud and angry but punchy and rhythmic. Perfect for a confused 14 year old! It has more form than other breakcore songs, being adjacent to alternative and pop, and sounds far more unique than your average amen break and go type songs. Her songs, mainly those in the Chaser EP focus on topics like self-harm, anger, drugs, the internet, and the trans experience. Her popularity has made her somewhat of a transfem icon, alongside her OC/Persona, Token, who has appeared in (almost) every cover art since S33K H3LP. We love token!
Since her rise in popularity her songs have toned down the ante when it comes to the dark topics (Probably better for the health), and she has done many tours, shows, and collaborations with other artists.
Picking a favorite song is really hard because I have most of her songs in my favorites. But, out of all of them, ATTACKING VERTICAL has to be my favorite for its almost haunting instrumental and unique vocal track that separates it from her other songs.
Hornet Disaster. My newest musical obsession. I was listening for random songs to go with my writing session, when I found Agatka (Agatha! You're Being Melodramatic!). The next day I checked Weatherday's artist page and found Hornet Disaster.
This album has all the vibes I was looking for: It's fuzzy lo-fi rock, it has amazing hooks, very unique instrumentals, and very fun switch-ups mid song. Sometimes, its like there's two songs in one, or hell, three songs. The lyric while not the best written support the songs unbelievably well and add the perfect amount of catchiness.
I have NO IDEA what the story is for both Come In or Hornet Disaster. I rarely turn to music for their lyrics but I can appreciate them, especially when they're there to enhance the core of the music, and Weatherday does that very very well.
My favorite changes slightly with every relisten but my favorite song in the album has consistently stayed as, Agatha's Goldfish (Sparkling Water), simply because of how unbelievably catchy it is and because of how punchy it is. It really gets you feeling.
the noise is a fog, look beyond it and you will find beauty. I was randomly graced by the youtube algorithm with a very well put together full album visualizer, and in it I found the epitome of angry breakcore. With the album being in spanish, do I know what their saying? NO! Does it matter? NO! This is one of the best breakcore albums in a while. Though I'm not entirely sure if it falls under breakcore, because of just how unique it is.
This album is like a punch in the face and it stings, but you're a masochist so it great. Blednost lures you in with an entrancing intro track and then just absolutely shreds. It's mean, it's bold, and it's angry as fuck.
It sounds like this is my favorite album on the list but it's not, it's just so unique that I have to give it its own slate to really describe it. It's uniqueness comes with the drawback of being decently repetitive. Recycling sounds very often, it makes it harder to remember song names and parts. Though, the repetitiveness does mean that every song is just as fire as the last.
Choosing a favorite is hard because of the overall quality this album has on display. (I'm gonna say that for everything on this list aren't I) But, out of all of them I think death valley deserves top spot just for how many times I've listened to it. Also, the album art is fire, I feel like that goes for most of the picks on this list.
Romcom Youtuber NakeyJakey, A.K.A The Yoga-Balltuber, known for his quality videogame commentary and yoga ball mastery, he made an album, and it's realllllllly good.
Romcom is ethereal and nostalgic. Every song samples a piece from early 2000's media. The instrumentals are VERY unique for hip-hip, though calling it hip-hop feels like a diservice to the overall vibes. The use of reverb, the way the songs build up to the drums rather than starting with them, and the taking of cues from movie soundtracks really gives it that ethereal vibe althrough out. Every song in the album is outstanding and each of them transition into the next to create an amazingly beautiful album.
My main gripe is that its very short! A only 27 minute run time, thats less than some NakeyJakey videos! Besides that, I only really have praise for this album and I can't recommend it enough.
The best song in the album has to be Pine Barrens, its kind of objectively so, but my personal favorite is Tommy Hanks for how good the lyrics are in it and how raw it is compared to the other songs. It's one of the few songs where the lyrics are the best part for me.
flyingfish, I have no idea who he is. I just kinda... found him while in my discovery, so... There isn't much about him; he just kinda popped off in 2023 and I'm only finding out about it now.
flyingfish was my first intro into shoegaze, (unless Beach House counts, which maybe not) and I'm loving it. flyingfish gets straight to the point with all of his songs, off the rip. Punchy intros go into fire ass melodies and just keep going. He has good talent uhhh, not sure what else to write about here.
This entry is less about me recommending something cool and more about me saying, "I like this" and moving on. What can I say, flyingfish is good, it does the job of absorbing my ears and making me forget my problems. Simply Lovely.
